IN THE NEWS: SMALLER iPAD EXPECTED TODAY

NEW YORK (AP) -- Apple isn't saying what its big announcement will be today, but techies expect it will be about a smaller iPad. Tech bloggers and analysts are expecting an iPad with a 7.85 inch screen on the diagonal, about half the size of a regular iPad. They're guessing it will sell for about $250 to $300. Apple will hold a presentation today in San Jose, California.

IN THE NEWS: ASSETS OF CURT SCHILLING'S VIDEO GAME COMPANY WILL BE SOLD

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The items from the video game company ran by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling will be sold at auction today. Computers, monitors, model airplanes, a ping-pong table and figures of characters from the game "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" are among the items from 38 Studios that will be auctioned in Providence, Rhode Island. The state gave 38 Studios a $75 million loan guarantee. The company filed for bankruptcy in June. The company's intellectual property will be sold off separately in a few months.

ON THE WEB: FEDEX PREDICTS SHIPPING WILL BE UP THIS YEAR

NEW YORK (AP) -- FedEx is predicting a record number of packages will be shipped for the holidays because of Internet purchases. FedEx says it expects to handle 280 million shipments between Thanksgiving and Christmas, up 13 percent from last year. The busiest shipping day of the year expected to be December 10, and FedEx plans to move 19 million packages that day.

IN STORES: TABEO IS TABLET FOR KIDS

WAYNE, N.J. (AP) -- Toys R Us is rolling out its kid-friendly 7-inch tablet this week. The Tabeo includes 50 apps that range from Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja to AlphaTots and Operation Math. Parents will be able to customize controls to regulate online access. It comes with 4 GB of memory and is expandable to 32 GB. It also has a bumper around it so that it will survive a drop or a bump. It sells for $150.
