MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Madison man was sentenced to ten years in prison for physically abusing his ex-girlfriend's 4-year-old son. Twenty-seven-year-old Jerry Ehrett claimed the boy fell while riding his bike, but prosecutors say he pushed the boy into a kitchen counter, causing severe brain damage.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Madison judge is expected to rule this afternoon on whether hunters can use dogs to go after wolves. A group of humane societies sued earlier this year saying that the state didn't place any real restrictions on how hunters can train and use dogs to hunt wolves.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire english professor is the state's new poet laureate. Max Garland will hold the position through 2014.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A pioneer in the field of women's history who was a founding member of the National Organization for Women died this week at an assisted-living facility in Madison. Gerda Lerner was 92.
