Wisconsin Headlines For Tuesday Morning

Posted: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 -- 7:30 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Federal spending in Wisconsin is falling, mainly because of declining military needs. Preliminary data from the Wisconsin Procurement Institute says federal contract awards for the most recent fiscal year fell about 52 percent compared to the year before.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- A 20-year-old Oconomowoc (oh-KAHN'-uh-moh-wahk) woman was sentenced to eight years in prison for a heroin overdose that killed a Hartland man. Kandice Essmann pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide for the 2011 death of Dustin Williams.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay police say 18 people were arrested during the Packers' home game against Detroit. That's a season-high. Meanwhile 50 people were ejected for misconduct.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin public health officials say the number of middle and high school students who are smoking is at an all-time low. The 2012 Wisconsin Youth Tobacco Survey shows that 13 percent of high schoolers say they smoke and 2.5 percent of middle schoolers admit to smoking.
