Van Hollen: Ready to Tackle the DNA Backlog

Wisconsin has a new top cop. Republican J.B. Van Hollen took the oath of office Wednesday at the capitol. As Attorney General, Van Hollen heads up the state Justice Department--which oversees the state crime lab. As we've reported, DNA evidence is piling up at the lab, creating a backlog in the system. Van Hollen says that's not acceptable, but admits there's no quick fix.

Dangers of Pedal-Powered Toys

When push comes to shove, your child's pedal toy may be more risky than you think. A new study released by the Centers for Disease Control found more than 2,000 of Wisconsin children were taken to the ER because of small bicycle and tricycle accidents in 2002 through 2004.

Waunakee Man Injured in Christmas Crash Dies

A 26 year old Waunakee man injured during a car accident on Christmas night has died. Police tell us Brian McNally passed away December 29th. The teenager driving the car that struck McNally's appeared in Dane County Court today.

Former congressman Mark Green will rejoin the law firm where he worked before his election to Congress. Green will join the Green Bay office of Godfrey and Kahn. He'll help businesses with administrative and regulatory matters, as well as assist them in international markets.

Badgers Win Capital One Bowl

John Stocco threw two first-half touchdown passes and Wisconsin held on through a tense second half to beat Arkansas 17-14 in the Capital One Bowl today.

Pregnant Woman Killed

Milwaukee authorities say a 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed when a semi truck backed into her.

Homicides Down

Homicides are down in Wisconsin's largest city. Milwaukee police say homicides decreased by 16 percent in 2006 over 2005.

Thieves Target Town of Westport Residences

Authorities are reminding area residents to keep their home and car doors locked after a series of break-ins. The Dane County Sheriff's department says thieves are targeting homes and vehicles in the town of Westport.

Identity thieves could be foiled by one of several new laws taking effect in a few days. Snowmobiliers will have to tap the breaks if it ever snows and one law Wisconsin will not see in January is now in 48 others states across the nation.
