Hot Trends: Eat, Pray Love

Posted January 9, 2008 --- 6:00 p.m.

The book, "Eat, Pray Love" about one woman's year long soul searching journey has inspired women all over the country and right here in Madison to talk about their own journeys.

Book clubs are nothing new... but this book gained the attention of Oprah Winfrey.

Author Elizabeth Gilbert was so popular as a guest, Oprah brought her back on.

In the book Eat, Pray, Love Gilbert talks about her contentious divorce and depression and how it lead her to travel abroad for one year.

Gilbert spent the year traveling in Italy, India and Indonesia ... enjoying the pleasures of eating and meditation.

It set off a trend of yoga and food parties like this one to discuss the book.

A perfect marriage for people who enjoyed the book and want to try yoga.

Angela Gargano of Bliss Flow Yoga in Fitchburg says, "we do yoga parties...which is really very much the same concept. We do a yoga class. When you are really present after taking yoga I think you can really enjoy a little bit of amazing food and conversation that much more."

You don't have to do yoga -- some people are cooking Italian meals and discussing the book because she spent part of the year enjoying the food of Italy.

In the book Gilbert learns to enjoy life on her own terms.

Some women find what she did selfish while others are inspired by her choice to travel.

The message can also be very simple depending on how you come to this book.

"It was so much fun to read about finding joy in everyday life."

There are many ways to throw an Eat, Pray, Love party. But really, what better excuse to come together exercise, talk and eat in this year's Hot Trend.
