For many, the aerobics class that became so popular in the 80's is old news. The new millennium has brought a new type of power workout to music. It's called Zumba dance.
There are a number of places that now offer these Zumba dance-fitness classes.
It is based on a few Latin dances including meringue and salsa. It is lead by an instruction who does not give verbal cues, letting the class move on their own.
"It;s really basic patterns and simple footwork that students can follow....and easy to do" says Mona Melms.
Zumba is an aerobic work out that recruits many muscles and burns calories.
Students can step it up or back off depending on how their body is feeling that day.
"Its a trend I think right now because its a fun way to get your fitness in and enjoy dancing once again," Melms says.
Mona says students like it so much, she has had to add more Zumba dance classes. They are located on State Street.
