Hot Trends: Small Group Training

It's the new year and many people have resolutions to get in shape!

NBC 15's Christine Bellport shows us how to stay in shape and have a good time!

If pumping iron alone at the gym doesn't do it for you, but you can't afford one-on-one training, how about group training? A small group, that is-- and tailor-made to your needs physically and financially

Classes like some offered at Orange Shoe Gym on Junction Road are becoming more and more popular.

"I think it really comes down to accountability. A lot of people are looking for more one on one attention -but they still like the social atmosphere -so in a group you get a personal trainer who gets to know you as a person not a number," says Lauren Birkel, owner of the gym.

And when the number of ab crunches or push-ups start to climb, it is nice to be surrounded by friends who are feeling your pain.

So instead of spending that 20 dollars on meeting friends for drinks or lunch, consider a smart investment in your health.

" and knowing the economic times, small group training is a little bit more affordable on your pocketbook. You get to take advantage of using a personal trainer with some other people so you split the cost - but you still get that individual attention," says Birkel.

You can get a group of friends or co-workers to go in with you or they will pair you up with a group that best meets your individual goals.

They suggest you workout with the group at least two times a week. The cost is between 20 and 30 dollars. For more information on these small group classes at Orange Shoe Gym, head click on news links.
