In Hot Trends: a new exhibit at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art shows how animals reflect the trends of their time and culture.
It's called "One Must Know the Animals," and it opens this Saturday through August 19th.
Dating back to cave paintings and tribal totems, animals have capitvated the imaginations of artists and they've served as an enduring subject. Animal-based imagery has appeared across time and cultures.
The exhibit also looks at how modern artists have used animal forms in a reflection of their personal and social values. The public is invited to a special opening celebration for "One Must Know the Animals" this Friday from 6 to 9pm. There will also be several related discussions using animals in art through June.
