1157th Transportation Co. Back On US Soil

Posted Friday, January 11, 2013 -- 7:30 a.m.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin Army National Guard unit is back on American soil after nearly a year in Afghanistan.

Nearly 125 soldiers from the 1157th Transportation Co. will demobilize at Camp Shelby in Mississippi before returning to Wisconsin sometime next week.

The Oshkosh-based unit logged 1.8 million miles, hauling equipment through northern, eastern and central regions of Afghanistan. The guard members return with 40 combat action badges and five Purple Heart awards.

The Oshkosh Northwestern says it's the fifth time the unit has been deployed since 1990, including a 2006 deployment to Iraq.
