The Badger football team is returning home with another Capital One Bowl win.

"It's been a great day," said Katlin Mullane, a Badger and Packer fan.

And that solid performance was the first thing on the minds of most football fans at this Middleton bar on Monday afternoon.

"We're passing the ball and hitting pretty solid," said Phil Dowling.

"Going well so far, we're matching up with them," said Loren Helmeid, who was focusing the Badgers game. "We're kicking them around."

But Badger ball wasn't the only thing that was running through the minds of Madison area sports fans on New Year's.

Sure, college football is exciting, but for some, the biggest news came last night after the Packers/Bears game.

"Well if it is my last game, I want to remember it," said Brett Favre after Sunday night's win over the Bears.

After beating the Bears, Favre did everything but announce his retirement during the post-game interview.

And the prospect of the first season without Favre in 15 years, was sharing time with the Badgers in the eyes of many of these sports fans.

"Favre's kind of on everybody's mind, you got mixed reviews, mixed emotions," said Mullane, "I'm going with Favre."

"Just because he's been around forever and I think that's a bigger story," said Lori Ketter.

Other fans say the Badgers beat out the Favre story until there's an official announcement.

"If he comes out and says he's done, that's probably the story for a while," said Helmeid, "but as of right now, I think the Badgers playing."

And at least one Badger-slash-Packer fan says he expects Favre back on the field next year.

"I don't think you can leave a young 8-8 team," said Ben Meyer, who says Favre will still come back to play.

Still, while the Badger fans were decked out in their cardinal and white inside the bar, green and gold wasn't too far from their thoughts.
