UPDATE: Fitchburg Murder Suspect in Custody; Has Initial Hearing

UPDATED: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 --- 3:00p.m.

Information from Criminal Complaint:

Dominique R. Hale had his initial hearing on Wednesday in Dane County Court. According to a criminal complaint, he's charged with first degree intentional homicide, among other charges. On Saturday, September 8, 2012, Hale did cause the death of Willie H. Taylor.

Porsha Davis says the previous night she was not feeling well so a friend of hers, Willie Taylor, came over to bring her some cough medicine as he knew that she was sick. Davis stated that she had had a previous relationship with Hale. She says he's very dominating of her and was not willing to let her go on the numerous occasions that she tried ending the relationship.

Early that morning Hale started banging on her bedroom window and on the door and calling her cell phone asking who else was at her apartment.

Hale knocked down a door to the apartment and went right for Taylor. He "knocked him out." Davis thinks Taylor was unconscious because he was not moving. She saw Hale yelling over Taylor's body, "I'm going to kill you, I'm going to kill you."

When police arrived, they noticed Taylor looked severely injured. He did not have a pulse. An officer noticed a single wound to the center of his chest that appeared to be consistent with a stab wound.

After an autopsy, it was determined Taylor's body had two stab wounds. One was to the right shoulder and the other was to the chest. The stab wound to the chest was a fatal stab wound.

REPORTER: Chris Woodard

Tonight police and US Marshals are on the hunt. We were there as they searched, guns drawn, at two different homes on Madison's west side just hours ago. They are looking for murder suspect Dominique Hale.

Police consider him armed and dangerous.

They say they're putting a lot of resources into this search and are continuing to follow up on leads.

At the same time tonight we're learning more about why Hale was out of prison in the first place.

In January of 2009 Hale was sentenced to 5 years in prison for his part in a seven hour torture session.

He and two other men were convicted of kidnapping, beating, shooting with BBs, stabbing and splashing cleaning chemicals on another man. They did it after a drug deal.

But before that 5 year sentence was complete Hale was released from prison.

Tonight we've uncovered a letter he wrote to a judge one year ago asking for that release.

In it he says he's made positive changes in his life.

He says in jail he completed treatment for anger management and took a parenting class.

He says, if released, he'd work to provide for his kids and go to school to be a chef.

A character witness wrote the judge another letter saying Hale had learned from his mistakes.

He got out in October.

Two months later he was involved in a fight and shooting at a state street restaurant.

In a plea deal for that crime he was let out for time served after less than 4 months in jail.

Now, only 10 months after his early release from prison, police are desperately searching for this murder suspect.

They're working to get Dominique Hale back behind bars as soon as possible.

Fitchburg police say because they don't know where Hale is they've notified other law enforcement agencies outside the area to go along with their own searches here.
