According to the Rock County Sheriff's office, a Beloit man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car just a few hours after being released from jail.
According to a release, at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, 20-year-old Michael L. McThune stole a car from West Burbank Avenue. The victim told police she was warming her car up in her garage and realized a short time later that her car was missing.
Later, a Rock County deputy located the vehicle in Beloit Township. McThune tried to flee, driving at speeds around 100 miles per hour. He eventually crashed and then attempted to run away before officials caught him.
McThune was arrested by the Janesville Police for Burglary and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent. The Sheriff’s Office arrested him for Fleeing to Avoid Arrest, and cited him for Operating After Suspension. The Beloit Police Department will also be issuing charges of Obstructing/Resisting Officers stemming from the foot pursuit, officials said.
Rock County Sheriff's Office says investigations show Michael McThune had been released from the Rock County Jail just two hours before the incident.
McThune was booked into the Rock County Jail and will be held pending his initial court appearance Monday February 10.
