From the Beloit Police Department:
Within the past several days, the Beloit Police Department, and other area law enforcement agencies have responded to a number of stolen vehicles.
Most of these vehicles have been stolen while they were left running and attended.
Many of the vehicles have been recovered after they have been involved in a traffic crash and the occupants have fled the vehicle, sometimes into a waiting vehicle, that was also reported stolen.
Several vehicles that have been stolen in the city have been recovered in the stateline area, including Rockford, IL. We have had approximately 10 stolen vehicles from Beloit in the past five days. Most of these thefts have followed a similar trend.
Citizens are reminded that leaving a car unattended and running poses increased risk of auto theft.
Simple measures such as not leaving the vehicle unattended or locking the vehicle while it is unattended will minimize the risk of auto theft significantly.
Anyone with information on these crimes is encouraged to contact the Beloit Police Department or Crimestoppers.
