Suspected Thieves Busted In The Act

Incident report from Madison Police Department:

Early Friday morning, at 1:22 a.m., members of the Central District Community Police Team (CPT) were on routine patrol when a call came in regarding a possible theft from a vehicle.

The CPT's sergeant responded to a parking lot in the 400 block of West Gilman Street where he observed two men stealing items from a car its front window had been smashed out. One suspect had a CD player that he was carrying to another car the other suspect was trying to grab a subwoofer from the damaged car's trunk. Both were taken into custody.

Earlier this week Chief Noble Wray indicated thefts in Madison have gone up 2.2% so far this year, and that district commanders have indicated rising numbers of thefts from autos were likely fueling the up-tick.

Arrested:
Cody A. Fields, age 21, Madison
Mr. Fields was arrested for Theft, Entry into Locked Vehicle, and Possession of Schedule 2 Narcotic.

Ross J. Crosby, age 21, Madison
Mr. Crosby was arrested for Theft, and Entry into Locked Vehicle.
