Car thief leads Madison Police on chase, still on the loose

Posted Monday, October 14, 2013 --- 11:44 a.m.

Madison Police are looking for a car thief who led officers on a chase late Sunday night.

Police received a report of a stolen car taken from the parking lot of the Mobile Gas Station at 3019 E. Washington Ave at 11:15 p.m. The owner had left it running while going into the store.

An officer soon spotted the vehicle near Blair St. and John Nolen Dr.

The suspect sped away from the officer on John Nolan Dr., reached speeds estimated to be more than 100 mph.

The driver lost control after turning onto W. Lakeside Street. He abandoned the car and fled on foot along the railroad tracks.

Police searched for the suspect with a K-9, but he remains on the loose.

Police do not have a suspect description, other than that the thief is a male.

The victim believes that the suspect was dropped off by another vehicle at the Mobile just before the theft. A vehicle matching this description, a white Cadillac sedan, was seen by the officer ahead of the fleeing vehicle. The suspect may have been picked up after running away on foot.

Anyone with information should contact the Madison Police Department. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash prize by contacting the Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014.
