Release from UW-Madison Police:

In the early evening hours of 09/26/2012, investigators were able to identify a person of interest in the thefts from student rooms in both Cole and Sellery Hall.

Investigators spoke with Nicholas Suarez, a UW Student about the thefts. Suarez confessed to investigators that he was the individual who had committed the crimes. Suarez is a UW-Madison student but is not a resident of UW Madison Housing.

Suarez was booked into the Dane County Jail and the UW Madison Police Department is requesting charges from the Dane County District Attorney's officer for Burglary, Theft, and Disorderly Conduct.

It is important to remind students to use personal safety measures to protect themselves and their property. The University wants to remind students to keep their dorm rooms locked and to also make sure you do not let anyone into the residence halls who you don't recognize. Release from UW-Madison Police:

Madison, Wisconsin – UW-Madison Police are investigating a series of incidents that occurred in Sellery Residence Hall during the early morning hours of Sept. 21 and are seeking information from the campus community.

A male suspect opened the door of multiple residents’ rooms in the B-Tower but left when the occupants were found awake inside. However the suspect did steal items from other rooms in which the residents had been sleeping.

The suspect is described as white, age 18-20, 5’8” to 5’10”, approximately 160 lbs., short dark brown hair, wearing a black fleece jacket, a white shirt, and blue jeans.

Residents are reminded to lock their doors, especially when sleeping, and to not open or hold open any doors that require an access card or key for entry for someone who does not have that card or key.
