CrimeTracker 15: Police Say Cat Shot in Madison

Posted: Friday, October 19, 2012 --- 5:45p.m.

Release from Madison Police Department:

Incident Date:
10/05/2012 - 8:08 PM

Address:
2500 block McKenna Blvd.

Victim:
Female, age 51, Madison

She had a repairman working on the door to her McKenna Blvd. home earlier this month, and she told him it was okay to let her 3 cats come and go, as they would not stray far once outside.

When the woman’s daughter arrived home, around 5:30 p.m., she found Gaoth whining and lying in a hallway. The cat had a hip injury, about the size of a nickel, and it was bleeding. The 51-year old mother took Gaoth to a veterinarian who discovered the cat had been shot, and that a small caliber bullet had gone from the hip, through the stomach, and was not lodged on the animal’s right side. The cat had to be euthanized. The vet bill was over $780. Gaoth’s owner reported the crime on October the 5th, but said it happened on October the 2nd. At first she was not going to notify police, but then decided she should, out of fear that someone in her neighborhood might shoot someone else’s pet.
