Madison Police say there has been a string of burglaries on the city's west side in the last week.
In the latest incident happened on Holiday Drive. A husband and wife in their 40s were sitting in their living room when they heard three or four loud bangs that shook their house. The husband checked on this noise and saw three people running away. They had been trying to kick in his garage door.
One of them, a heavyset teen, was much slower than the others. He told the homeowner he was not with the other two suspects, but kept on running. Eventually a police dog tracked the suspects to the West Transfer Point, but police did not find them.
There have been two similar cases on the west side involving a similar pattern. One was in the 5200 block of South Hill Drive on Thursday, the other in the 5100 block of Juneau Road. In both those cases, garage doors were kicked in and burglars got into the house through the garage.
The thieves are targeting money, jewelry, and liquor.
