Press Release from Cottage Grove Police:
On Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at approximately 7:40 a.m. police responded into the 4500 block of Sandpiper Trail for a homeowner who confronted a white male, wearing a dark colored jacket and blue jeans, breaking into a vehicle parked in their driveway. The male took off running and with the assistance of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Madison Police canine a perimeter was set up and a track performed. The male was not located but it is believed he may have gotten into a vehicle parked in the area and left. During a canvass of the area police did recover some stolen items along Sandpiper Trail. Witnesses told police there were a red and a white vehicle parked at the dead end of Nightingale.
Police had reported to them or found other vehicles broken into in 2700 block of Mourning Dove Drive, as well as, on Trush Lane and Falcon Court. Police also took a report of a theft from a shed in the 2800 block of Gaston Road.
Cottage Grove Police Chief Chris Hughes, states of the vehicles broken into were both locked and unlocked. “These crimes were committed during a time when most people and kids in this subdivision are going to work or school”, Hughes stated. Police ask anyone witnessing what they feel to be a suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood to call police immediately. “This suspect(s) are extremely bold and got away for now, thus, it is quite possible they will do this again”, Hughes stated.
