From Madison Police:
A Madison mother was up, getting a glass of water in the kitchen, early this morning when she heard the knob of the door leading to the garage start to turn. She grabbed a hold, and held on as she screamed for her husband. He took off and gave chase, as did her 20-year old son, as a burglar fled. As he ran, he threw keys he had stolen from the husband’s truck, which was parked in the garage. The MPD arrived and the family was able to point out tread marks in the freshly fallen snow. With the help of MPD K9 Slim, officers tracked to a residence in the 1200 block of S. Thompson Dr. There, a woman allowed them in, and sneakers, with wet bottoms, were found near a door. The tread on the tennis shoes matched that which was found in the tracks near the victims' home. A suspect, who is convicted burglar, was located in the residence and arrested. He is a convicted burglar.
The arrested burglar is: Vernon E. Lyles, age 20, Madison
