Madison Police say officers are investigating two similar burglaries and an attempted burglary on the city's west side.
The crimes took place Friday evening.
A concerned man called Police just before 8:00 that night after seeing two people trying to break into a neighbor's home in the 1400 block of Rae Lane. The man was able to scare them off.
When police got to the area, they found that a home in the 1700 block of Lynndale Road was broken into. The homeowner was gone, and officers do not know if anything was taken.
A second burglary was reported in the 6000 block of Piping Rock Road just after 10:00. The residents returned home to find their garage doors kicked in. Jewelry was missing from their home.
A police dog was called in to try to track the criminals, but no one was found.
