On 8/21/2012, at approximately 3:45pm, Madison Police Officers responded to a complaint of a stolen diamond ring, that was valued at approximately $15,000.00. The 69-year old victim stated she took her ring(s) off at 10:00am to take a shower, and noticed the rings were gone 4 hours later.
She began contacting local pawn shops, suspecting that there was a strong possibility that her jewelry might appear, and located a local pawn shop that was in contact with an individual that was attempting to pawn the ring(s). Police responded to the pawn shop, and became acquainted with Forest S. Shomberg, who was connected to the pawn activity. Police developed probable cause, and recovered two rings in the process. Shomberg did not wish to offer an explanation as to why he was in possession of the rings that clearly did not belong to him, and was taken to The Public Safety Building on charges listed.
