UPDATE: Alleged Armed Robber Arrested

UPDATED Wednesday, January 18, 2012 --- 11:40 a.m.

Release from Beaver Dam Police Department:

32-year-old Josiah Kaiser has been taken into custody in Denver, Colorado with regard to an arrest warrant issued for him in connection to an armed robbery at the Shell Travel Mart at 821 Park Avenue on July 12, 2011. A criminal complaint and arrest warrant were issued for Kaiser in December 2011. The criminal complaint charges 1 count of armed robbery and additional charges are likely. Kaiser was taken into custody at approximately 6:00 p.m. CST on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

Since issuing a press release on January 6, 2012 announcing the issuance of the arrest warrant for Kaiser, the Beaver Dam Police Department received several citizen tips regarding the location of Kaiser. Some of those tips were found to be credible with accurate information as to the recent whereabouts of Kaiser in the Denver area. The exact circumstances surrounding the arrest of Kaiser are not known, however we have been informed that he may be facing additional charges in Colorado.

The Beaver Dam Police Department wishes to thank all persons who contacted our department and provided information about the location of Kaiser. Kaiser is currently in custody in Denver, Colorado and will face extradition proceedings to Wisconsin at a future date.

A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence. A criminal complaint is a document alleging a defendant committed an act or series of acts. The state must prove all of the alleged violations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Release from Beaver Dam Police Department:

On July 13, 2011 at 4:14 p.m. the Beaver Dam Police Department was dispatched to Shell Travel Mart at 821 Park Ave. for an armed robbery. A male suspect armed with a handgun confronted the clerk and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken by the suspect.

The suspect was described as wearing a baggy pair of carpenter style blue jeans, white tennis shoes, a gray and black colored sweatshirt with a hood and a nylon over their face. The suspect is further described as being in his 20's or 30's, approximately 5'10" tall, 175 pounds and medium build.

The suspect left on foot running east on Park Ave. toward U.S. Highway 151. Witnesses indicate the suspect may have fled the area in a white passenger car.

A handgun has been recovered in the area and the Beaver Dam Police Department is working to determine if it is related to the robbery at Shell Travel Mart. Other items of evident which will not be immediately disclosed have also been recovered. While we do encourage citizens to remain vigilant to their surroundings, we do not believe there is an imminent threat of danger to citizens in the area.

The Beaver Dam Police Department was assisted by the Dodge County Sheriff's Department and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team. The Beaver Dam Police Department is leading this investigation and will meet with the State of Wisconsin Crime Laboratory on July 14, 2011 for assistance in attempting to identify the suspect.
