Details:
A strong-armed robber was taken into custody by UW-Madison Police Dept. officers early Saturday morning following a foot chase involving a friend of the victim.
She was shaken and crying while telling a MPD officer of the crime.
The 21-year old woman was walking home with friends around 3:20 a.m. They were in the 400 block of W. Dayton St. when she felt a tug at her wrist. A stranger snatched her blue, Coach brand, wristlet purse and took off running.
A 26-year old Madison man, one of the victim’s friends, began the chase but lost the suspect in the East Johnson St. area.
UW-Madison Police Dept. officers picked up the trail, set up a perimeter, and took the suspect into custody. The purse has not yet been recovered, and was likely tossed during the pursuit.
