Incident Date:

4325 Mohawk Dr. (BP gas station)

Prince W. D. Owens, age 28, Madison
Mr. Owens was arrested for Burglary, and Criminal Damage to Property.

Two concerned citizens and a store clerk were able to hold down a theft suspect outside of the BP gas station, 4325 Mohawk Dr., Friday night, after he tried to steal a package of herbal incense, which some people smoke like marijuana.

The 34-year old clerk said the thief tried to reach behind a glass partition that separates the cashier's quarters from the retail area. The employee, with the help of a customer, ran outside of the main door and tried to hold it shut, trapping the suspect inside. The suspect shook the door, shattering the glass, before running out of a side door.

A second customer witnessed all of this. He told his girlfriend to call 911 as he ran out to assist in the apprehension.

The clerk and the two customers were holding the suspect down as police arrived.

The cashier said the man tried to take a product called Fusion. The suspect admitted that this was the case. He said he smokes the incense because it gives him a better high than marijuana.
