Elderly couple robbed by man who helped them load groceries

Madison Police say an elderly couple was robbed by a man who had earlier helped them load groceries into their van.

The husband and wife, both 82, encountered the man around 2:30 Sunday afternoon outside of Capitol Center Market on N. Broom St.

He had first asked them for a few dollars in exchange for his help. Then, he convinced them to give him a ride to Catalpa Rd.

Once arriving there, the stranger threatened to hurt the husband if he did not give up his wallet.

The man ran away once getting the wallet.

The couple called police after returning home.

Police describe the suspect as: Male, black, 20's, bald or shaved head, wearing dark clothes.

Officers say a second man may have also gotten into the victims' van and traveled to the south side location as well.
