A 37-year-old Appleton man is in custody after officials say he led them on a 45-mile chase in two area counties.
Officials say it started around 7:30 p.m. Monday when the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a reckless driver south on Highway 41 from Winnebago County. There was concern the driver had a weapon and made threats.
The Wisconsin State Patrol and a Fond du Lac sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 41 near Highway 23, but the driver wouldn’t stop and led officials on a chase.
Officials say as the chase continued, the vehicle collided with the deputy’s car, causing it to roll over. The 46-year-old deputy was treated and released from a hospital.
Officials say the suspect then continued on and ended up in the city of Fond du Lac, that’s when the city police department got involved.
The suspect kept going and then ended up in Dodge County where he was struck by another Fond du Lac County squad car. The deputy wasn’t injured.
The suspect was then taken into custody. He wasn’t hurt. He faces several charges including eluding an officer.
