A Madison man was ordered to stay away from all minors.

Martez Malone was charged Monday with second-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement and using a Facebook to facilitate a child sex crime.

The 22-year-old worked as a summer school teacher for the Madison School Community Recreation Program.

A 14-year-old told police Malone touched her inappropriately last month.

Malone denied the accusation when he was arrested. He is supposed to be back in court September 9.

A Madison schools summer program staff member was released from jail Monday, after he was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl in his dance class.

A court commissioner established 22-year old Martez Malone's bail as a signature bond.

Police say Malone denies doing anything inappropriate.

The Madison School District was notified Thursday. By Friday they had suspended Malone without pay and notified the program's staff and parents of what they call "employee misconduct."

But police are calling it a sexual assault. Malone was arrested Friday on a tentative second degree charge.

An MSCR employee at Blackhawk Middle School was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl in his dance class.

"This is shocking for me," said Michelle Vasquez, a MSCR participant at Blackhawk Middle School.

"I'm really worried that that can happen again, and I don't really want that again," said Vasquez.

22 year old Martez Malone has been a summer employee with MSCR since 2010, teaching dance and basketball. The teen who accuses him of touching her inappropriately inside the school's gym Wednesday was in his dance class.

Police say Malone denies doing anything inappropriate. Vasquez says she's interacted with Malone at school and describes him as a "nice guy"

"He was nice," said said. "I don't think he's bad at all."

Malone, like every hired MSCR employee, went through a background check and training that includes the subject of sexual harassment.

"What we want to ensure is that our staff is the best trained," said Madison School District's safety director, Luis Yudice.

The Madison School District was notified Thursday. By Friday they had suspended Malone without pay and notified the program's staff and parents of what they call "employee misconduct."

"Once in a while we have these incidents. We deal with them honestly. We report them immediately to police, and then we just let the outcome direct what our course of action is going to be," said Yudice.

But police are calling it a sexual assault. Malone was arrested Friday on a tentative second degree charge.

"We do have things that substantiates what the student has told us," said Madison Police Department's PIO, Joel DeSpain.

"We're reviewing our processes to determine what if anything needs to be changed," said Yudice.

Statement from the Madison Metropolitan School District:

Safety of our students is always our top priority. Because there is an ongoing investigation, I will need to refer you to MPD for any further comment. But here's what I can tell you.

As soon as our staff became aware of the allegations, we notified police immediately. The employee was immediately suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Background are conducted for all MSCR summer employees. Applicants must pass the background check before being hired. All new MSCR summer employees also receive mandatory training in a variety of areas including sexual harassment.

Madison Police say they arrested a Madison School Community Recreation Program (MSCR) summer employee after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with a student.

Police were called to Blackhawk Middle School last Thursday afternoon for a report of a possible sexual assault.

After investigating, they arrested 22-year-old Martez Malone for second degree sexual assault.

Malone is accused of having physical contact with a 14-year-old student inside the school last Wednesday afternoon. Police say it involved inappropriate touching.
