Madison Police say criminals are using cars.com to try to scam buyers.
A sales rep at Wilde Honda East contacted police last week after receiving calls from customers. The customers were interested in vehicles advertised online that were supposedly at his dealership.
The sales rep logged on and looked at the photos. He immediately knew the cars were not on his lot.
Someone apparently hacked into Wilde Honda East's cars.com account. The posts had Wilde's logo but told buyers to contact a private seller by e-mail.
The posts listed various Gmail address. Wilde Honda does not use Gmail addresses for sales.
