Madison man arrested for battery

According to Madison Police, a 24-year-old woman was injured trying to keep a man out of her apartment building downtown Sunday.

The woman said she went to the apartment building’s common area at 3 a.m. because someone was repeatedly pushing door buzzers. She opened the heavy door to the common area and saw a stranger, police said.The man then slammed the steel door on the woman’s arm as she attempted to pull it shut.

The woman went to her apartment and called police. Officers said they found the man inside the apartment in the 200 block of Lakelawn Place.

According to police, Josiah Toe Cheapoo Jr., 19, of Madison, struggled with officers and broke one of their radios. Cheapon was arrested on suspicion of battery, disorderly conduct, resisting, damage to property and depositing human waste products.
