Brian Stowe of Madison has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for using a minor to produce child pornography.

The sentence handed down by a U.S. District Judge Friday includes 20 years of supervised release.

Stowe pleaded guilty to the charge in October.

Stowe admitted that while a minor was sleeping in his apartment in 2012, he removed her clothes and engaged in sexually explicit conduct and took photos and videos during the sexual assault.

Investigators found 53 images and 14 videos depicting the sexual assault of the minor.

Judge Barbara Crabb said during the sentencing that Stowe appears to be an intelligent, kind person to his family and friends, but then turns into a different kind of creature.

“You would think that a predator would look like a predator, and feel like a predator, but not so; you are a horrible predator,” Crabb said to Stowe. “You robbed this young woman of so much of her life and her self-respect.”

Stowe will be sentenced for several charges in Dane Co. in March.

Brian Stowe, the Madison man accused of sexually assaulting friends and a stranger and taking pictures of the acts faces 62 felony charges.

If convicted on all counts he could see a maximum sentence of 1421.5 years in prison or a $3.59 million fine, or both.

Police say he undressed and filmed eight women since 2010, assaulting five of them, usually while they were drunk after parties. One of the women, a stranger who shared his cab home, says she woke up in his apartment as he was having sex with her.

When police showed the pictures and videos to the suspects many cried and said they felt sick and were "disgusted." None of the women say they gave Stowe consent.

"Some of the very graphic, very disturbing, highly invasive and inhumane conduct that he is engaged in as described in this 32 page criminal complaint is not just blowing a couple of harmless pictures out of proportion, it is in fact somebody who is engaged in serial sexual assaults," said Dane County Prosecutor Corey Stephan.

On Monday the state asked Judge Todd Meurer to raise Stowe's bail after his family posted $500,000 almost immediately last week. The amount was lifted to $527,000 with conditions that Stowe surrender his American and English passports, not leave the county except to see his lawyer, and not contact women besides immediate family members and his girlfriend.

"It boggles my mind that there is some individual who is still going to be his girlfriend," said Judge Meurer., "but if she wants to be his girlfriend that is fine with me. I'm not going to prevent her from having contact with him."

Stowe will head back to court July 1.
