Madison man reports attempted mugging

Madison Police say a man came to the North District station early Friday morning to report an attempted mugging he says took place the day before.

The 46-year-old man says two men tried to rob him on Thursday around 10:45 a.m. while he was walking on Oak St. near E. Washington Avenue.

He says one man hit him in the head with a handgun. He was able to get away, and tells police he believes it was possibly a targeted assault. The man did not lose any possessions.

Police say so far, no other witnesses have reported the crime.

The following suspect descriptions were provided by police:

1. Male, black, 5'8", 170 lbs., 25-30 years old, muscular build, shaved or bald head, wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, and brown leather boots. He was armed with a handgun.

2. Male, black, 5'8" to 5'10", 130 to 140 pounds, 25-30 years old, slender build, hair pulled back in ponytail, thin moustache, wearing a dark blue cashmere jacket.
