UPDATED Thursday, February 2, 2012 --- 1:05 p.m.
From the Madison Police Department:
The two victims were both treated and released after each was shot in the leg.
The men are neighbors on Wells Ave. One – the 46-year old - appears to have been targeted. The second victim – the 35-year old listed above – was wounded while witnessing the dispute between his neighbor and the gunman.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 46-year old victim was confronted outside of his residence. It appears that a dog, owned by the victim, may have bitten the suspect several times.
Following the bites, shots were fired, and each victim suffered a leg wound. The gunman ran towards Fair Oaks Ave. and Milwaukee St. A police dog was able to track the suspect for some distance before ultimately losing the track.
The gunman is described as a black man, 20’s to 30’s, 6’ to 6’2”, 240 to 250 pounds, with a heavy build. He was wearing dark clothing, with a hood.
As stated in the original release (see below), detectives believe this was a targeted act of violence.
Anyone with information on a possible suspect should contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014. Callers can remain anonymous and maybe eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
