Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type: Battery

Incident Date: 01/12/2013 - 1:23 AM

Address: 924 Williamson St. (outside Plan B)

Arrested: Jeremias M. Robertson, age 20, no permanent address
Mr. Robertson was arrested for Substantial Battery, Simple Battery and Disorderly Conduct - 2 counts.

Victim: Male, age 29, Portage, WI
Female, age 21, Madison

Details: A Portage man was knocked unconscious after being thrown from the back deck of a Williamson St. dance club early Saturday morning. Witnesses said another man became angry with the victim after the victim declined to provide a cigarette. Surveillance video shows the suspect grabbing the 29-year old by the neck and hurling him down a set of deck stairs. The victim's head hit a railing, knocking him out. A woman, who had been socializing with him, tried to intervene, and was also pushed down the stairs by the suspect.

He fled, but witnesses provided officers with solid clues and these led to a W. Beltline traffic stop and an arrest. The suspect initially denied being downtown, but later changed his story, and admitted to grabbing the male victim, after he learned of the surveillance video. The male victim was treated for a head injury at a hospital.

I got jumped years ago after I refused to give someone a cigarette. If someone approaches you and asks you for something you should BE ON YOUR GUARD and look for an escape route. Chances are they already think whatever they're asking you for and everything else on your person is theirs.
