Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
Incident Type: Fraud
Incident Date: 01/26/2013 - 2:50 PM
Address: 341 State St. (Community Pharmacy)
Arrested: Dante K. Saunders, age 21, Beloit, WI
Mr. Saunders was arrested for Forgery, Resisting and Obtain Controlled Substance by Fraud.
Details: It was a sense of déjà vu for an alert downtown pharmacist. He had seen the suspect before. He had seen the stolen prescription pad before. Now the man was back Saturday afternoon, trying to illegally obtain more oxycodone from the Community Pharmacy, 341 State St.
The first time the suspect left with the pain reliever, as the pharmacist did not initially have reason to doubt the prescription presented this past December.
The pharmacies did some investigating, and soon learned the prescription had been written on a pad stolen from a Milwaukee area medical facility.
This weekend, when the suspect tried the same ruse again, the pharmacist stalled while police were called. When an officer arrived, the suspect took off running. His path first took him onto busy W. Gorham St. where drivers were forced to slam on the brakes to prevent hitting him. The foot chase went down State St., through Peace Park, across a church parking lot, over a wall, and eventually out onto a frozen section of Lake Mendota, where the suspect was captured.
He made no admissions about his crimes. He was arrested for forgery and resisting for the Saturday afternoon events, and also on a tentative charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. The last count was for the December crime.
