Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type: Suspicious Person

Incident Date: 03/19/2013 - 10:15 AM

Address: 1000 W Johnson St

Arrested: Male, age 27, Madison
Suspect has been detained by the MPD but has not yet been tentatively charged.

Victim(s): Female, age 22, Madison

Details: Witnesses responded to a woman's screams, coming to her aid Tuesday morning, just as a stranger threw the 22-year old victim into the elevator of a downtown apartment building.

The victim struggled with the 27-year old suspect on the ground floor of the building, prior to be yanked into the elevator. She kept the man from getting her inside just long enough for witnesses to get to the elevator door before it could close.

The suspect released the victim as passersby kept him detained, inside the elevator, while police responded. The suspect has been detained, but not formally arrested, so his name is being withheld at this time. He does not live in the building where the assault took place.
