Madison Police say witnesses called 911 Friday evening after a man began beating a woman with a wooden table leg inside of a bakery.

The incident happened at Pan & Pan Bakery in the 1900 block of S. Park St.

Bakery staff say the suspect also pushed the victim against a wall. During the disturbance, a cookie display container was knocked to the floor and a computer monitor was damaged.

The victim did not appear to be seriously injured, and did not identify herself.

The suspect was found walking near the area. He reportedly told police both he and the victim are homeless and were having a dispute over money.

Police arrested 67-year-old Robert Evans for criminal damage to property, 3 counts of disorderly conduct while armed and resisting.
