Dane Co. deputies arrested a Fort Atkinson man after he allegedly hit a woman with a handgun and left her on the side of the road.
The domestic incident happened Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Albion.
The 18-year-old victim called police after 23-year-old Cameron Bates allegedly left her just off I-90 near mile marker 162.
She said Bates became angry with her while they were driving on the interstate. Bates allegedly pulled over, took a handgun from under his seat and hit the woman in the head several times with the barrel of the weapon.
Bates then allegedly held the gun to the woman's head, threatened her and pushed her out of the vehicle. He then reportedly returned home to Fort Atkinson, where he began to destroy the victim's things.
Authorities say they found the handgun in Bates' vehicle.
Bates is in Dane County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct while armed, recklessly endangering safety and battery. All of the charges include the domestic enhancer. Fort Atkinson Police are also charging Bates with criminal damage to property.
