Madison Police arrested a man Thursday who allegedly stole money from a homeless woman's purse.
The crime happened around 8:30 that morning at the Bethel Lutheran Church on Wisconsin Ave.
The woman was getting some breakfast when a man grabbed her purse, took her money and ran away.
Police say the woman does not have a job, and was devastated because the money meant a lot to her.
Officers responded and looked at surveillance video. They spotted the thief wearing a distinctive knit cap in the video. An alert went out to other agencies, including the Madison Public Library.
Library staff at the W. Mifflin St. location spotted a man wearing a matching hat that afternoon. Officers responded and corralled the man after he tried to make a run for it.
Police arrested 37-year-old Terrance Thomas for theft and an outstanding warrant out of Milwaukee County.
