CrimeTracker 15: Man Arrested after Pawning Stolen Property

Posted Wednesday, December 15, 2010 --- 1:40 p.m.

ARRESTED: Gates, Theron M. Male, age 25, No Fixed Address

CHARGE:
-2 counts Felony Receiving Stolen Property SS943.34 (1)(c)
-8 counts Misdemeanor Receiving Stolen Property SS943.34 (1)(a)

Theron Gates has been arrested by the Janesville Police Department for the above charges after several weeks of investigation into the pawning of stolen property at local pawn shops and the recovery of stolen property from his temporary residence.

Items that were pawned or recovered were primarily taken from thefts from motor vehicles that occurred over the past several months and three burglaries that occurred on the east side of the city. Items taken or recovered included GPS units, jewelry and watches. Gates remains a suspect in the stealing of the property from the burglaries and thefts; however insufficient probable cause exists at this time to charge him with those offenses.

The Police Department is asking anyone who has information concerning Theron Gates and his connection to the burglaries or thefts to contact the Janesville Police Department or Janesville Area Crime Stoppers. The investigation is continuing. Gates is currently being held at the Rock County Jail on a probation violation for which he is on probation for burglary. Gates has yet to cooperate with the investigation.
