Monroe Police investigating weekend stabbing

Posted Monday, October 7, 2013 --- 12:45 p.m.

On Friday, October 5 around 2:07 a.m. Monroe Police were informed that a 36 year old Monroe man was in the hospital emergency room, with injuries allegedly sustained in a stabbing by another man outside a residence on Monroe's west side.

Police were told that the suspect was believed to still be at the residence where the stabbing took place, in the 900 block of 10th Street.
Officers arrived at the residence, and were able to find the suspect inside.

Joshua J. Powers, Monroe, was arrested and taken to the Green County Jail, where he is being held pending a court appearance. He has tentatively been charged with Assault with a Knife.

The initial investigation indicates that Powers allegedly stabbed the victim, a 36 year old Monroe man, after being angered over a relationship with a female. The victim sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was stabbed several times.

The incident is still under investigation at this time.
