Off-Duty Officer Takes Down Alleged Shoplifter While Shopping with Daughter

Mr. Kinsey was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Retail Theft.

Details: An off-duty Madison Police lieutenant took a shoplifting suspect to the ground, and held him down as uniformed police were called to Walmart, 4198 Nakoosa Trail, Saturday afternoon.

The lieutenant had been shopping with his daughter when he saw the suspect trying to push past a loss prevention officer. He had just stolen ammunition for BB gun and for an airsoft gun. The lieutenant identified himself as a police officer, but this did not stop the suspect from trying to escape. Following a brief struggle, the men landed on the floor of the store's vestibule. On the way down, the lieutenant cracked his nose on a vending machine.

When uniformed officers arrived, they found him bleeding while pinning the suspect to the floor.
