UPDATED Friday, September 28, 2012 --- 2:45 p.m.

NBC15 received the following press release from the City of Watertown Police Department:

The missing juvenile (Rachel Heller) was located on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. by the Washington DC Metro police department.

She is currently being detained by juvenile authorities until family members are able to pick her up.

Rachel Heller had been staying voluntarily with a friend in Washington DC without the knowledge or consent of her parents.

Rachel Heller was reported missing to the Watertown Police Department on August 24, 2012.

Rachel Heller had reportedly left their house without telling anyone and took with her an overnight bag when she left her home.

Information received by police at the time did not indicate an involuntary abduction, but instead that the missing juvenile intended to leave her residence.

Family, friends, and police are searching for 16-year-old Rachel Heller from Watertown, who has not been seen in nearly two weeks.

Her family says she was seen leaving home with an overnight bag August 24. Since then her cell phone has been disconnected, and she has not been seen.

"You do lose track of time and even what day of the week it is," said her father David Heller. "It's like I'm there, I know my job, but it's just like you're almost not there, you're just kind of empty."

Heller and other family, as well as friends and strangers, are handing missing posters from Watertown down to Janesville. Watertown Police are also investigating. Her parents say several leads have led to dead ends.

Of course kids don't have a clue what they're doing when they act out... they're KIDS. It's our jobs as parents to teach them well and raise them right. Rachel, I hope you have a safe and loving home to come back to!

Am very glad that the girl was found from Watertown and is ok. My older sister used to run away. Kids do not realize what Parents and family and friends go through when they run off. Sleepless nights. Blaming each other and selves for the child leaving. I wish the kids (old and young) would realize that their running away only brings on more problems. Fortunately this had a happy ending. So many do not.

Then they made me go to every place they put up a sign up and made me go take them down!!! How embaressing watching people look at me... My heart goes out to this family. I went through something similar when my daughter was 16. She left with a man I didn't know, saying she would be back in the morning. She was gone for 2 weeks with no word. My heart said she'll be back, but my head said maybe she's dead! The most awful two weeks of my life. She did come back. She had been kidnapped and taken all over the country before getting on a bus and coming home. She was OK. I pray this girl will come home too and be OK.
