A family pit bull was killed by gunfire earlier today, during an apparent armed robbery. Just before 7:30 this evening, Beloit Police responded to a call of shots fired on the 2100 block of Elmwood Avenue, on the city’s north side.

Once at the scene, officers discovered that an armed home invasion had taken place. Masked gunmen apparently entered the home in an attempt to rob it. However the suspects ran away before police arrived.

Preliminary reports indicate that this was not a random act of violence. There are no reported injuries to the people that were in the home at the time of the incident. Detectives, evidence techs, and drug and gang unit investigators are assisting in the investigation.
