UPDATED Tuesday, May 29, 2012 --- 2:45 p.m.
A bank robber that has targeted banks in the Madison area may have struck a bank in the Rockford, Illinois area.
On Saturday, May 26th at 1:39 p.m., Rockford City Police Officers responded to the Fifth Third Bank located at 3154 McFarland for a hold-up alarm. A man entered the bank demanding money while implying that he had a gun. The suspect fled the area in a grey Toyota Corolla.
The man in the surveillance photo does appear similar to the bank robber wanted for crimes in the Madison area.
Madison Police Department spokesman Joel DeSpain told Madison.com that it may be the same suspect.
The following robberies have been linked to the same suspect:
The first robbery occurred on Monday, September 19th, 2011, at the Associated Bank located at 2400 Allen Blvd in Middleton.
The second robbery occurred on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012, at the Associated Bank located at 2400 Allen Blvd in Middleton.
The third robbery occurred on Monday, May 14th, 2012, at the Associated Bank located at 1574 West Broadway in Madison.

Madison Police are searching for a robbery suspect who fled a west side bank with cash early Wednesday afternoon.
The man, who police describe as white, about 5'9'', and 190 lbs., entered the M&I location at High Point and Mineral Point at about 1:00 p.m. He presented the teller a note, took cash and left on foot.
A surveillance photo of the suspect is available above. For more information, visit the incident report website.
Earlier this week, police announced they believe a bank robbery suspect in a recent Janesville incident is the same man who also recently robbed locations in Madison and Middleton.
They acknowledge today's Madison robbery suspect looks similar to the other suspect, but it is too soon to tell if they are the same person.
The FBI is also contributing to the robbery investigations.
