UPDATE: Man taken into custody after standoff in Sun Prairie

UPDATED Thursday, October 24, 2013 --- 10:07 a.m.

Sun Prairie Police took 43-year-old Douglas Crossen into custody following a standoff Wednesday.

Crossen was taken into custody peacefully at 5:39 p.m.

He was taken to jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Intoxicated Use of a Firearm.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Middleton Police Dept., Fitchburg Police Dept. and State Patrol assisted Sun Prairie Police during this incident.

Police say the man inside a Sun Prairie home has been taken into custody.

The following intersections are presently not accessible by traffic: N. Bristol St. & Cliff St., N Bristol St. & Oak St., & Windsor St. & North St.

Sun Prairie Police say they are dealing with a possibly suicidal man holed up in a home on Bristol St.

A family member contacted police about the man just after noon.

Officers are concerned because they think he may have a rifle and a handgun. Police believe he is alone.

While police are no longer in contact with the man, they were in contact with him at one point.

Authorities called residents in the area telling people to stay inside and away from windows.

Schools that have been under a lockdown will be let out.

Sun Prairie. Officers have closed off Bristol St. between Cliff Street and Windsor Street due to some type of police situation.

Avoid the area the area if you can.

At this point, officers are not releasing any other information.

Ginger Bread House Preschool on Bristol St. is under a lockdown as a precaution during this situation.

Sacred Hearts School is also under a lockdown.
