VIDEO: Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Stealing Squad Car

UPDATED Wednesday, February 15, 2012 --- 6:50 a.m.

From the Janesville Police Department:

On 2/14/2012 at 8:07 p.m. Janesville Police Patrol Officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a 1991, Maroon, Chevrolet Caprice in the 1600 block of Center Avenue. The vehicle was reported swerving in the roadway, crossing the center line into oncoming lanes of travel, speeding up, and slowing down.

The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was made at Milton Avenue and Blaine Avenue. The vehicle stopped. There were five occupants in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Jacob Ramos. Ramos had an odor of intoxicants on his breath, and was subsequently taken into physical custody for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated. Ramos was hand-cuffed behind his back, and placed in the back seat of a squad car.

Ramos was able to maneuver his hands around in front of his body as officers continued the investigation of the traffic stop. Ramos exited the backseat of the squad car into the front seat through the partition window of the squad’s security partition.

Ramos escaped by driving the squad car away from the traffic stop location. The squad car was located, abandoned, at Parker Community Credit Union (2652 N Lexington Dr.) on 02/14/2012 at 8:46 p.m.

Janesville Police Patrol units and a Janesville Police Department K9 unit surrounded the area of Parker Community Credit Union. The K9 tracked Ramos to 2501 Holiday Dr. Officer’s made contact at 2501 Holiday Dr Apartment #4. Ramos was found inside, taken into custody, and then transported to the Rock County Jail where he was held.

UPDATED: Tuesday, February 14, 2012 --- 9:39 p.m.

NBC 15 Photojournalist Curt Lenz reports that the Janesville Police Department has arrested a suspect on the 2500 block of Holiday Avenue in Janesville.

Police say they are transporting the suspect to a local hospital. A sergeant with the Janesville PD says the suspect is being uncooperative right now.

There is no word yet on the nature of his injuries, although he did appear to be hopping on one foot when police arrested him.

Information from Rock County Sheriff's Office:

Police are looking for a man they say stole a Janesville Police squad car.

There was a traffic stop around 8:15p.m. at Milton Avenue and Blaine Avenue in Janesville.

During that stop, a man took off in the police squad car.

Police have since recovered the vehicle.

The suspect is on the loose.

    the case didnt take an hour the suspect was located with in 15 minutes the perimeter was set till k-9 could get there, and the officer was dealing with the other 4 suspect if you read the story.

    Don't worry, the Rock County DA office will give him a slap on the wrist. Half the charges if not more will get dropped.

    Boy this makes the officer look stupid, where was he or she at the time the guy took off with the squad?

    OMG! LMAO, big city crime, maybe he could have posted his lost car on craigslist under lost and found. Took almost an hour for them to find the squad, aren't there tracking devices in the cars????
