Robber punches gas station clerk in the head

Madison Police say a suspect punched a gas station clerk in the head several times during a robbery.

The incident happened shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday at the BP at 4222 E. Washington Ave.

The clerk says the robber jumped the counter and ordered her to open the register.

No weapon was seen, but the robber had his hand in a pocket, making the victim think he may be armed.

The robber ran away with cash.

The clerk was shaken up, but not seriously injured.

Police describe the suspect as: Male, black, mid 30's, 5'6", slightly heavy build, 210 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, baggy black jeans, black shoes and a black baseball cap.
