UPDATE: Motel surveillance video helps Madison Police make arrest

The Madison Police Department arrested a suspect yesterday with the help of motel surveillance video.

Donald D. Alford-Lofton, age 19, was arrested for Robbery, Battery, Intimidation of a Victim and Bail Jumping.

Alford-Lofton is accused of punching a hotel clerk and stealing his phone early Monday morning.

The incident happened around 2:33 a.m. at the Super 8 at 1602 W. Beltline Hwy.

Madison Police say a robber punched a hotel clerk and stole his phone early Monday morning.

The incident happened around 2:33 a.m. at the Super 8 at 1602 W. Beltline Hwy.

The clerk was trying to kick a trespasser out of the hotel.

When the stranger refused to leave, the employee pulled out his cell phone and said he was calling police.

The other man then punched the clerk in the face. The clerk dropped his phone, and the robber grabbed it and took off.

Police describe the robber as: Male, black, 20-25 years old, 6', thin build, puffy hair, wearing a white t-shirt and dark jeans.
