Janesville police officers were sent to 2 S. Martin for a report of subject making suicidal comments and armed with a handgun just before 8:30 P.M. Sunday.

Other occupants of the residence had already fled the home. As officers arrived, phone contact was made with the subject, Daniel Eldridge, who said he would not come out and speak to officers.

The Janesville SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called to the scene. Negotiations lasted for approximately two hours and Eldridge made it clear he was not going to come out. Chemical munitions were used by the SWAT team and he was eventually taken into custody without injury.
